Karma, Dharma and Butterflies

Song for Carin

This song came to me just before the passing of my dear friend Linda’s mother, Carin, in 2018. Another song that I felt needed more work at the time and then the years passed by and the song was almost was forgotten. I listened to the this song again after returning from the Advanced Space Holders Training Retreat in Cadiz with Rita Hraiz a couple of weeks ago. I felt Carin’s presence so strongly during my time in Spain that I wanted to honour her beautiful soul and all the inspiration and love that poured out from her to so many people. I was so blessed to have known this incredible woman and her beautiful family.

Thank you also to Christina Rosseti who’s poetic words also are present in this song (a verse from ‘Who Has Seen The Wind?’). I was originally going to call the song ‘Trees Bow Down Their Heads’ though since returning from such a powerful retreat I feel strongly to honour Carin’s light and strength and her beautiful book that weaves into the song: Karma, Dharma and Butterflies.

This is the original recording I made in 2018

Thank you Carin for your profound wisdom and love.

Love is what matters

Beautiful words shared by Carin’s daughter Tullan when she passed in 2018.

"Mamma said to me many times that it is not what you do but how you do it that matters, her focus was not on her many achievements in the world (in addition to being the most wonderful mother and grandmother, as a dedicated meditator and observer of the mind, therapist, writer of many books, teacher of many things - from meditation to physical education, yoga to cooking, dance to dreams, creator of one of the first and most special holistic health centers in Sweden in the 1980's, writer of a groundbreaking psychology dissertation on gender at the University of Stockholm in the early 1960's, adventurous traveller around the world and into the mind and soul) but on how to be more present, more generous, more loving. She created a community around her and she made us feel loved and at home in the world wherever we were.

Mamma said when I asked her what really matters in this life, on what turned out to be her last morning before passing over, that Love is what matters, to share and express it, we are all in this together.

Mamma is our light and love and below are some of her favorite texts that we read together over the last period (and part of the service per her wishes) -

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. It does not envy.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
(St. Paul to the Corinthians):

L'Amor che move il sole e le altre stelle.
The Love that moves the sun and the other stars.
- La Divina Commedia, Dante Alighieri

The Ten Paramis
Generosity
Virtue
Renunciation
Wisdom
Energy
Patience
Truthfulness
Determination
Lovingkindness
Equanimity

Metta phrases Mamma Carin found solace in-
May I/she be happy,
May I/she be healthy and strong,
May I/she be safe and protected,
May I/she live with ease and wellbeing."

Muerte es Vida

Reminded of this beautiful film MUERTE ES VIDA 2017 by Ali Alvarez

“A meditation on death as a part of nature. The film captures a bold and colourful look at Mexico both the natural world and the vibrant culture creating an atmospheric exploration of the relationship between the mystical journey of the Monarch butterfly, the deaths of individual people and the celebration of the Day of the Dead.

A snippet of song - releases tomorrow with the new moon

Honouring Presence, Love and Wisdom

Dear friends, I am looking forward to sharing a song I wrote and recorded for my friend’s mother just before she passed in 2018. Carin was an inspiration and guiding light many years ago. Her presence came so strong to me in Spain recently and I would love to honour her beautiful spirit by sharing the song for the new moon.

Here's a snippet of the song…

Voices Of The Grandmothers & Kaiāulu New Moon Ceremony

Voices of the Grandmothers

[Documentary Film] 1:48:54

Voices of the Grandmothers is a profoundly moving documentary that honours the wisdom, resilience, and sacred teachings of Indigenous elder women from around the world. Through intimate storytelling, ceremonial imagery, and heartfelt dialogue, the film reveals a timeless beauty rooted in connection to the Earth, spirit, and ancestral knowledge.

Its greatest gift is the transmission of ancient truths—messages of harmony, compassion, and sustainability—that transcend borders and speak to the soul of humanity. It invites all beings to listen deeply, to remember, and to walk more gently on the Earth.

For future generations, the film is a luminous guide: a call to respect elders, preserve cultural traditions, and live in balance with nature. It inspires hope and action, reminding us that the wisdom of the past is vital for shaping a more conscious and compassionate future.

(Inpiring extracts from video transcript below)

Grandmother Pershhile (Perci)

Hopi /Tewa Elder

“In our way in the Hopi way the saying that without the mother the family is lost. So Motherhood Sisterhood Grandmahood is a very important role and like you mentioned before unfortunately we have become so involved with our own self that we don't consider that as sisters in the universe that we say we all serve and we are here for the same purpose and that's to bring life into the world.

Women are becoming very competitive in their own role and we're forgetting about the sacredness of womanhood. The creator gave women the ability to have babies and with that right to give birth comes extreme compassion, love. When you hold a baby in your arms there is no feeling you can describe what that feels like to know that you carried this baby with you. And that is the joy of motherhood and that we should celebrate that with all the sisters in the universe. I think that when we become too involved with trying to be better than say I want to be better that Grandmother Salas here then it disrupts that energy that important energy that I don't need to walk in front of you. It's like any relationship, I don't need to walk behind you I need to walk beside you and sometimes I need to pull you up and sometimes you need to pull me up. But we forget to do that with one another. In fact we're like ok you're on your own. You know you got yourself in that situation. Figure out how you're going to get yourself out. And that's not what we should be doing with one another. We should be lending a hand with them and saying Ok I understand that I'm woman too. You're woman. Let's walk together. And that I think is very important in how the universe is starting to develop because like I've mentioned before the prophecy from the Hopi people and universal prophecy is when the Grandmothers begin to speak then the world will begin to heal. And that's what we carry on our shoulders. Is that how do we heal the universe if we're having internal conflict?"

Madi Sato

Singer Songwriter

“There's a song I want to share for humanity for the waters that came through the source of a river that comes down into Santa Fe. And I go to this source many times because the source holds everything you need; the healing; the new information; the vision; and I go there and I share my visions with the source. And I love how the river which gives us all of the life we need begins in a source that many times is so inconspicuous and unannounced. That's where the power is. It's not in a cased in a huge temple and it's not got a big flashing sign that says this is where the richness of life really is. So at this source I'm sitting there and I get taken over by a song. A melody begins to move through me and it is as soft and as easy flowing as the winds right now around us and I'm in the presence of the source of the river and my heart is being moved. My blood is being moved and my voice begins to move up and down and I don't know what it is but I'm allowing it to move through me but I can begin to bring my awareness my loving heart in my embracing arms to hold this sacred song of the source of the rivers and I begin to recognize the pattern in the song and that's when I say oh that song is wanting to be sung now…”

Kaiāulu New Moon Ceremony this Thursday

This Thursday evening the Kaiāulu Council Elders along with Wisdom Keepers from around the world will be hosting their monthly new moon online ceremony.

"A sacred space to come together in prayer, song, and intention-setting. By aligning our energies with the potent New Moon cycle, we amplify our collective healing power and strengthen our connection to the Earth and each other.

This One Feels Different

Last night, Joanna Macy—beloved elder, teacher, and luminous presence—crossed the threshold. You may know her work well, or maybe you've never heard her name. Either way, what she lived for runs through all of us: fierce love for Earth, courage to face what's hard, and a way of meeting these times with both broken hearts and open hands. -

There are no words large enough. Joanna was a voice for Earth, a guide through despair, a midwife of what she called "active hope." She taught me something I keep learning: that grief isn't weakness—it's love with nowhere else to go. Love for this living world that needs us."

Advanced Space Holders Training Retreat with Rita Hraiz

Thank you again to for the incredibly transformational Advanced Space Holders Training Retreat with Rita Hraiz in Cadiz a few weeks ago. As I continue to do the inner work and gently bring more awareness to each present moment the gifts unfold. May these heart explorations continue to bring even more expansion and love xxx

Next Advanced Spaced Holders Training Retreat 30th May – 6th June 2026

Advanced Spaceholders Training - Cadiz, Spain

I am filled with gratitude for this opportunity - to journey deeper into the teachings and to truly understand what it means to hold space and prayer for another. Thank you to Rita Hraiz and Davina Mackail and all the incredible space holders who supported me so generously during our time in Spain for this opportunity to go deeper into the teachings. Your wisdom, presence, and love have been a guiding light. 🤍☀️🕊

The benefit of looking at the shadow is seeing the light of love surrounding it

As we navigate these shifting times on Earth, each of us carries unique gifts and offerings. Some of us may take a little longer to truly honour our own—often allowing outdated patterns to fuel self-doubt and fear that disconnect us from our true nature. The parts of ourselves we hide to please others, to stay small, can weigh heavily on the mind and manifest as suffering in the body. When we learn to value, love, and integrate these hidden aspects, we open the door to real transformation.

Metamorphosis isn’t always graceful—it can be slow and painful, or suddenly swift and illuminating. But time becomes irrelevant when we surrender to the present moment. This is where the journey to self-love begins and unfolds.

With deepest appreciation and reverence, thank you—all of you—for walking this path beside me. 🕊☀️🕊

Reminded of a song I wrote for some dear friends last year… ‘Remember Who You Are’ on my album The Flower In Your Heart released this year March 2025.

Remember Who You Are

Remember who you are
A shining light a star
Lay your head to rest
Find the softness in your heart

Surrender to the now
Let go of where you’ve been
Or what or why or how
Find that stillness within

Remember who you are
This light of love and grace
Your soul has travelled far
Allow this warm embrace

And take this time to heal
In your temple of light
And let your dreams reveal
The light of love inside

Remember who you are
A shining light a star
When you wake up feel the peace
And the softness in your heart

Remember who you are
A shining light a star
When you wake up feel the peace
And the softness in your heart
